Sam Smith: Artist or Not

What makes a person an artist? Everyone has a slightly different definition of artist. One of these definitions is a person skilled at a particular task or occupation. By even a basic definition, Sam Smith is an artist in his own way. He is dedicated to his music, he constantly tries to improve it and himself, and he does amazing things with his voice in order to create his music.
Sam Smith has an amazing voice and puts it to use in his music. He has a vocal range of G#2 (extremely low) to G5 (extremely high soprano) (Sam Smith). That is almost 700 hertz of difference! He has won 10 different awards on 4 albums, gotten 20 nominations between 2014 and 2018, he has gotten 6 number one hits in the UK, 2 in the US. He has even broken two Guinness World Records: One for composing a James Bond theme song that went to number one on a Top 100 Chart and for a number of consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 chart. Sam Smith first began training with a coach at age nine and first received media attention at age 15. On many an occasion, Sam Smith has tried to acknowledge the LGBT Community in his acceptance speeches but has been repeatedly shot down because of it. Despite this he still continues to acknowledge the Community and even donates profits from shows to LGBT causes. He also wants his music to be more relatable to the general public.This is shown in many of his songs about heartbreak. Other artist may make these songs in an almost aggressive manner but Sam sings them in a way that many people can relate to. Not only does he sing songs that are a mix of R&B, pop, and soul, but he is also trained in jazz and even sang backup for his jazz coach. He has also done a collab with John Legend on Red Nose Day to raise money for Comic Relief, a british charity.
