It explores themes about ageless love, the age gap between men and women, and society’s emphasis on looking youthful. The script sends the message that love has no boundaries. Women will certainly relate to the premise.
While the idea of a woman deceiving the man she loves about her age feels like a solid concept, the story would benefit from more development.
In a romantic comedy two major features have to be strong and compelling. The story has to have a strong romance, the couple has to share compelling chemistry and, the audience has to be convinced that the couple is in love and that they belong together.
In the first act, there’s some good chemistry when Valentino and Suzy initially meet with each other. While one isn’t fully convinced of their love, there’s potential to build it. Unfortunately, due to the structure in which they meet again 20 years later, the couple lacks the chemistry. The audience is never convinced they are in love or belong together. One reason for this is that the second act loses a bit of its focus when the story focuses more on Suzy and her job, versus her relationship with Valentino and her hiding her age from him.
