Saint Patrick was my all time favorite saint. He was born in Roman Britain on 385 AD and died on March 17, 461 AD in Saul. He had very little education at all but later in his life he trained to be a clerk. When he was 16 he was kidnapped by pirates and was taken to Ireland where he was a slave. He dreamed of having seen God. Legend says, he was then dictated by God to escape with a getaway. Although Patrick was only 16 years old when taken into slavery, he was able to escape five years later and return home. He remembers a dream he had in which an angel of the Lord came in the night and told him that there was a ship that was leaving Ireland. In fact, it would be fair to say, that Patrick had become somewhat of a mystic by this stage. So intense was his prayer life and his constant communication with God! Patrick spent 5 years in slavery before he escaped and came back to England. He traveled to France and his occupation there was a sheep herder. Later in his life he traveled back to Ireland and became a priest. But before he became priest his real name was Maewyn Scott. Later he chose patrick to be his priest name. Saint Patrick has baptized thousands, started many monasteries, and helped spread Christianity across Ireland. The shamrock was a very important tool to Saint Patrick he used it to describe the Holy Trinity (Father son holy spirit). Saint Patrick died on march 17th. We Celebrate his death every year on this day and call it “Saint Patrick's day”. St Patrick's Day is another way to keep the Irish heritage alive. Its celebrated with parades everywhere, candy, Food, music and dancing. A whole day of fun. Saint Patrick is became a saint because of his missionaries.
