“In 2014, a total of 249,078 babies were born to women aged 15–19 years, for a birth rate of 24.2 per 1,000 women in this age group.”(Hamilton, Martin &Osterman 2015) “Adolescents ages 15-24 account for nearly half of the 20 million new cases of STD's each year.” (CDC 2014) I think the best course of action for helping prevent these detrimental consequences in teenagers is to have open, honest discussions with children from an early age to help educate them on ways to prevent these consequences. I can speak from personal experience, that at an early age, my mother educated my siblings and me on the importance of safe sex. My mother, who gave birth to my eldest sister at 17 years old, spoke to us about how her lack of knowledge on the subject,
