STEM Scholar Application Essay

Decent Essays
Honestly, at first I wanted to be a Governor’s STEM Scholar so I would have another title to put on my resume and college applications. However, as I gained more information about the program and became more and more invested, I realized I was underrating this opportunity. The thought that I could meet people that have the same interests as me and are working to achieve similar goals as I am never crossed my mind. Hopefully, in the program I will be able to meet other students that I could learn from and mentors that I could benefit from.

As children, our parents shape our ideas and opinions. When I was a child I thought Texas A&M was the only university my parents would let me attend based on the way they talked about it. I thought that they would not help pay for my college if I went anywhere else. It was not until I was in high school that I realized that Texas A&M was the only university I wanted to attend. I would like to study at Texas A&M to continue my family tradition, for the opportunities it offers after graduation and to be admitted to the dental school with a great education behind me.…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

At the end of my sophomore year, I was given the position as operations officer for the JROTC program at my school; a position that is usually reserved for a senior, but, my dedication and expertise to the program made me prepared for the post. My position requires me to exhibit excellent public relations, leadership in the program, and disciplinary skills. On a daily basis, I’m presented with questions by other students on how to improve physically and academically at school, in general. Students are somewhat frightened to ask me for help, but I encourage them to seek out help from others because I take pleasure in seeing others succeed in life.. One thing I am big on is physical fitness, especially helping others grow.…

For every decision one makes they have a person or an event to accredit as to why they were influenced to make that decision.
