This formation might be important for petroleum because of its carbon concentration. Because of pierre slate poor foundation this formation is a problem for construction. The Roadcut along Roony road, just south of I-70 has a 280 deg dip and S42E. The rock beds become older towards the mountains. When going from the south to the north along the roadcut the depositional environment changes from sea to marine. North Table Mountain was our first week trip. The first stop was on the parking lot, which is located north west of our topographic map with a P letter on it. The elevation of this area is 6000 ft. to get to the top of North Table Mountain we have to ascend about 450 ft. On our way to the top we first observed a road cut exposing sandstone rock that has clay content. In the rock record there was a Denver formation with uplifting evidences. The rocky mountain uplifted before 68 – 68.5 million years a

On 09/07/2006 at 1011 hours, I was patrolling eastbound on Highway 10 at Ives Road. I observed a vehicle matching the description of one I know to be occupied by a wanted person and possibly involved in several thefts in the area. I observed the vehicle was parked on the side of the northbound lane, facing south. I then observed a white female I know to be suspect, Patti Jo Denoon, exit the passenger side of the vehicle and sit on a brick, speaking to several other persons. I knew P. Denoon to have an active Sherwood warrant and a Parole Violation warrant.…

Shockingly, the discovery of gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill on January 24, 1848, which unleashed the largest migration in the United States history that surprisingly drew people from a dozen countries to form a multiethnic society on America's fringe. Hundreds of thousands of people flooded California in 1849 and the decade that followed after. You might be wondering who discovered the gold, James Marshall discovered the huge amount of gold by accident, later on the world of gold by accident, later on the world had been spreading throughout the world, that brought 300,000 people to California.…

Introduction On September 12, and October 3, 2016, we stopped at 6 locations north of Northampton in the Deerfield Basin of the Connecticut River Valley (Figure 1). The purpose of these stops is to examine rocks, interpret depositional environments for each rock formation, and discuss the geologic history of the Deerfield Basin based on observations and interpretations. Early Mesozoic lithospheric extension led to the development of a long sequence of rift basins. The Deerfield basin is the erosional remnant of one of these rifts exposed in North America after Pangaea separated during the Carnian (Olsen et al., 1992).…

Coors could still offer unpasteurized beer and adjusting their “Rocky Mountain” slogan to encompass the whole country— “Pure American Spring Water.” If Coors established numerous production facilities, they could take advantage of economies of scale, use suppliers for ingredients, and simply concentrate on their primary business. Additionally, their relationships with wholesalers would improve from time being less constricting. A differentiated version could be developed of the original Colorado beer formula and be distributed in the Western region or nationally, at an appropriate price…

The Smackover Formation, a Jurassic system, with a carbonate petroleum source rock, extends over several states including: East Texas, South Arkansas, North Louisiana, Mississippi, South Alabama, and West Florida. The Smackover Oil Field was discovered in Union County, AR, in April 1922 (Weeks, 1938). Later, in 1936 Phillips Petroleum and Company, successfully drilled the first limestone discovery in the field, discovering a new formation to which the field would lend its name (Weeks, 1938). The Petroleum System- From Source to Trap’s defines a petroleum system as the “essential elements and processes, along with genetically related hydrocarbons that occur in petroleum shows, seeps, and accumulations whose provenance is a single active pod…

The first piece of evidence that points to a non-traditional formation of the Rocky Mountains is the rock composition of the ranges in this area. The rock composition in these areas is not sedimentary like we would expect to see in the traditional convergent boundrie folding type of orogenic event. But rather, it is composed mostly of basal igneous rock that seems to have inexplicably risen up from deeper portions of the crust (Pendick and Denial, 1997). The second, and most problematic, question as to the formation of the Rocky Mountains is, how did the mountains form so far within the interior of the continent? The central and eastern portion of the Rocky Mountains is thought to have formed during the Laramide orogeny; which is believed to pre-date the Jurassic and early Cretaceous accretion of the terrenes that make up the North American cordillera.…
