Mercutio's Relationships In Romeo And Juliet

In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare there are many relationships that are essential to the plot and the showcasing of certain characters and their evolving mindsets. One such relationship is the friendship between Romeo and Mercutio. When Mercutio is first introduced his first line is: “Nay gentle Romeo we must have you dance” (Ⅰ.ⅳ.13). Instantly the sentiment given to Mercutio is one of silliness, someone who likes to have fun, and who doesn’t take no for an answer. Mind, where Mercutio is implying they dance is at the Capulet party, the house of Romeo’s sworn enemy being a Montague. Mercutio take huge risk in this endeavor not only on his life, but specifically on Romeo 's behalf. Mercutio also was the biggest instrument of Romeo and Juliet finding each other. Mercutio had been so eager to belittle Romeo’s obsession with being in love and the depression Romeo 's compulsive infatuation brings, which swayed Romeo to finally attend. Mercutio says: “And to sink in it should you burden love- too great oppression for a tender thing” (Ⅰ.ⅰⅴ.23-24). Mercutio seems utterly in disbelief of the gloom Romeo is feeling simply because of love. Mercutio’s symbol of virtue of getting Romeo to have some fun for a night ultimately will turn in a vice when Romeo falls in an even deeper infatuation than he had with Rosaline. Romeo and Juliet marry decide to marry each other the night they meet each other. Each lover expresses suicidal thoughts of dying if one cannot be with the other. Mercutio’s consultation of seize the day while in the moment allows Romeo to let loose, became a newly fueled tension between Tybalt and Romeo and an ill-fated deep relationship with
