Love. Tragedy. How can two such different topics be put in the same story? Tragedy is the crux of Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare was greatly inspired by Ovid to write the play. Shakespeare used similarities and differences through the play to show how Ovid had inspired him. He demonstrates the similarities and differences through character, plot, and conflict of each story.There is a very strong correlation between the play and poem. Shakespeare based Romeo and Juliet off Pyramus and Thisbe. Both stories are about star-crossed lovers who are forbidden to be together.
