Romeo and Juliet: Victims of Fate Why did Romeo and Juliet meet in the first place? Could the deaths of six have been avoided? And finally, but importantly, why did Juliet wake up just in time to see Romeo perish? Fate is what ties these all together. In the beginning it was told “A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life”(prologue 6.) This meaning that their fate was to fall in love, and to be together as written in the stars. Romeo and Juliet by, William Shakespeare, conveys a tragic love story about the strong hatred between the Capulets and Montagues, and the love that unpredictably results from Romeo and Juliet, which in the end causing fatal outcomes. When Shakespeare writes “This bud of love, by summer's ripening breath, may prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.” ( 2.2.5), it’s clear that while talking with Romeo, Juliet wishes that their young love may grow into a beautiful flower. An example of love and hate intermixing would be when Romeo states “ Tempt not a desperate man” (5.3.3) When saying this Romeo is speaking to Paris and warning Paris to not trouble him for he is already quite desperate and more likely to act outrageous. So, when Paris refuses to let Romeo see Juliet he warns him that even under the most unfathomable circumstances, Romeo would get to be with Juliet whether it being life or death. Suggesting love is mysterious and may sometimes lead people to commit unfortunate acts that they would have never done otherwise. Which leads to the tragic death of both Romeo and Juliet, because where Juliet took a poison that would temporarily shut down her body. Romeo never got any message from Friar Lawrence or anyone else of the sort. Resulting in Romeo taking an act of true love and killing himself. Shakespeare writes “The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss a dateless bargain of engrossing death.”(5.3.115) meaning that Romeo is ready to join his love in the afterlife.
