The actions that they did affected the entire humankind. The Greek gods and goddesses worshipped them because they believed that mortals were a lower version of them, and could become heroes. To be a hero in Greece and Greek mythology, one must have great skills, strength, ingenuity, intelligence, and charisma. The gods and goddesses respected these mortal heroes, and rained down on them with accolades. Other than having a liking for humans, the gods and goddesses mated with them. Their children were called semi-gods or a demigod. One parent was mortal and the other was a god or a goddess. Semi-gods are born with godlike qualities, but have the appearance of a human. An example of a demigod is Perseus, who is the son of Zeus/Jupiter, and a mortal woman. He was the demigod who helped kill Medusa. That is different from Roman mythology. In Greek mythology, the afterlife was not important. It was believed that the gods and goddesses were there to help improve life, and keep people alive. Even in somebody’s death, a person could be brought back to life to fulfill duties that are needed. A mortals afterlife is not important either. A person is determined on the actions they do on earth, and their actions to do determine where they end up in death. After death, a mortal’s soul goes to the Underworld, which is ruled by a Greek god named Hades. This place was joyless, and there was no hope for those who end up there. The Greeks believed that the dead just faded into nothing. In Roman mythology, the mortals tried to do good deeds to have a great afterlife. If enough good deeds were done, they would be rewarded to be with the gods. After their deaths, they would be taken to the underworld where it was ruled by Pluto, a Roman god. Instead of staying there forever, they would get judged on their actions. If one did great deeds then they went to the Fields of Elysium. If a person was just ordinary then they went to the Plain of Asphodel, but if a person committed a crime they were tortured by Tartarus. To help their family members have a good life in the underworld, there would have to a proper burial so that their members won’t be stuck in
