The novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry focuses on a black family named the Logans living in Mississippi in the 1930’s. They have to fight through segregation and the other hardships of being a African American in this time period. The definition of courage (provided by dictionary.com) is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.”
One of the characters who displayed the courage is Uncle Hammer. Uncle Hammer was trying to be courageous when he heard about Mr. Simms throwing Cassie into the middle of the road.
