The respect and importance of women is a topic still under discussion, for women feel they have not gained the appreciation they deserve. But the amount females are receiving in present day time is far more than any women would experience back in the Elizabethan Era. While we worry about being presented with the same wages of money, back then, leaving the house without supervision was rare. All based on their gender, they were seen only as mothers, house workers, and weak individuals whose opinions didn’t matter. Today that would be highly protested on, but back then, it was typical daily life.
ROLE IN SOCIETY
Building up to the amount of equality we receive was not always easy. Where we started could be considered an insult, for we received no reverence from anyone in society. Our education was not prioritized, our line of work was limited, and our society put restraints on our social freedom.
Education. Women's education was not encouraged like it is in present day time, if anything, it was rare. Few schools accepted girls in general because they were categorized with weakness and no potential of intelligence. “But most of them had only Male signs on the door; the few that did accept girls gave them a softer, easier course of study”(Papp). Their power was not apparent in marriage either as they were only used for childbearing and chores.
