There was always a meeting or concert that we had to be at. We had clocks everywhere you looked in the house. The ladies in the house usually made it on time to events, but the men were always running late. My dad had his own clock in the entry way of the house that we set five minutes ahead of all the other clocks to try make him be on time. Our family was known for being late because we usually went everywhere together, so being fifteen minutes became the normal for everyone.
During the summer, leisure time was spent at the lake. When we were at home and had leisure time we played with our dogs and cats and worked on 4-H projects. During the winter, we spent our time outside, playing games inside, or watching movies. Most of us played together that was part of how we kept each other entertained. There were times when we would split up to play by ourselves because my brother would want to play with tractors, but the girls wanted to play with dolls.
My family was a big promoter of reading. We have several bookshelves full of books of multiple genres. We also had magazines and newspapers from three towns that came weekly to our house, and every night we watched Five Eye Witness News that was broadcasted out of Minneapolis. These forms of media kept us all informed about what was going on around
