M2: Discuss the roles of two healthcare organisations in relation to health service provision
Care Quality Commission:
The care quality commission are regulators for all health and social care services in England. A regulator is an organisation that checks services meet the government’s standards or rules about care. They also look after the rights of people who need extra support to stay safe. This includes people who are kept in care under the mental health act. All nurses and midwives are required to treat all individuals equally, with respect, dignity and care, regardless of their culture, sex, age or class.
Nurses and midwives have a duty of care and therefore the individuals that they work with must be able to trust them with their personal information, lives and health. This code also has in place many schemes which make sure that the Equality and Diversity legislation is met.
The value bases of care provide guidance for care practitioners on how to achieve best practice and guidance on how to provide high quality care to all service users on a consistent basis, providing protection for both the service users and care workers. All records must be signed and dated. Maintenance of record keeping ensures that the individual’s needs are being met and may reduce the likelihood of lack of care towards the individual. If a service or organisation fails to follow The Data Protection Act or to keep up to date with records about their patients/clients, this could lead to service receiving penalties and damaging the organisations reputation. When changing anyones personal information or care plans, the service user must be notified and acknowledge what changes are being made.
Effective record keeping by health and social care staff can ensure that a high standard of health and social care is being provided to them. All information written must be clear and relevant and should never be discussed outside of the work place. If an individual’s personal information is discussed outside of work to someone who is not their colleague, supervisor, or manager, then it is breaching the rules and conducts of this law and will be exploiting the service users confidentiality and
