As Thomas Foster puts it, “weather is never just weather”. Every great piece of literature I’ve come across has used weather in some form or another. Weather is undoubtedly essential in showcasing the tone and mood of that particular setting.
One example of this being true is in the classic written by F Scott Fitzgerald, ‘The Great Gatsby’. My favorite part of the book when Daisy and Jay are reunited again at Nick’s house you see weather play a huge role in this powerful scene. On the day Nick invites Daisy over as a favor for Jay it just so happens to be continuously raining. I think the rain was a symbol of the nervousness and the buildup to seeing Daisy again for Jay. The two are speechless when they first see each other as the drizzling
