I don’t have a strong believe that R&R and R&B were a uniting force developed by an only one and “perverse” or powerful and interested mind. However, both genres brought new songs and influenced each other.
Meanwhile, I think Bill Haley or Elvis Presley contributed bring Rock & Roll near to a larger audience despite the fact they were using and taking advantage of black musicians like Chuck Berry or Little Richard. I don’t think any music is exclusive property to anyone, black or White. Music belongs to all people. Also, Elvis Presley was ‘the King of Rock ’n’ Roll’, singing ‘cleaned up’ commercially-friendly cover versions of Blues songs originally by Black singers; have a good listen to Big Mama Thornton singing “Hound Dog”!
