The obstetrician decided to perform various tests to confirm the diagnosis of preeclampsia. As the days followed I received a phone call from the midwife questioning me on how I felt, and if I had started to feel some of the symptoms of preeclampsia which at the moment I had none.. The midwife proceed to explain how all the test performed showed trace of protein in the urine, and those are signs of preeclampsia accompanied by the mild elevated high blood pressure. The midwife explain I will start treatment for hypertension which was one of the doctors main concerns, the plan was to make it to 36 week gestational age due to the fetus not being fully developed. Around 32 week gestational age diseased started to progress unfortunately the medication for hypertension was not helping, at that point the obstetrician decided to admit me to the hospital and prepare me for induction. After being in the hospital for a few hours my health was deteriorating my symptoms were just getting worse to the point the attending physician informed me that my condition had progressed to severe preeclampsia, and can soon worsen to eclampsia which means I could have seizures or even go into a coma, and that is what the doctors were trying to avoid. Preeclampsia usually progresses through the remaining weeks of pregnancy if not treated or until labor is ended or induced, that is usually around 34 to 37 weeks gestational age. Severe preeclampsia is the condition of a woman with preexisting hypertension or protein in urine, the diagnosis of severe preeclampsia can be more difficult to treat. when newly diagnose severe preeclampsia extremely high blood pressure or excessive protein in urine can development with in a short period of time. Symptom for severe preeclampsia include upper right abdominal pain increase of liver enzymes, elevated bilirubin, kidney damage, abruption of placenta, pancreas disease, pulmonary edema and, small amounts of urine less than 500 ML in a 24 including large amounts of protein. At that point preeclampsia is consider sever in the presence of multi organ disease. Severe Preeclampsia is also associated with increase risk of maternal mortality (0.2%) and increase rates of maternal morbidities (5%) such as convulsions, acute renal or liver failure, liver hemorrhage and stroke.
