Richard Donovan: San Diego State Prison
The R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility was named after Assemblyman and Judge Richard J Donovan. He was born on February 24, 1926, Richard Donovan sponsored to build a State Correctional Facility in the San Diego, Donovan shot himself in the head with a 32 automatic in his shower. Donovan passed away before the institution was built On November 20, 1971. And He served in many other government positions, He was a police officer for the National City police department he was a deputy marshal, clerk, and a judge.

Another program that Donovan is associated with is Self-Help and Inmate Leisure Time Activity. This is where inmates can talk about what they are dealing with such as narcotics problem alcohol addiction and criminal and gang activity. While having these programs in mates stay anonymous.
They also have a type of scared straight program were inmates will scare young juvenile’s into making better decisions. They try to help them stay out of gang’s and stay out of jail and in all staying out of trouble. Donovan also has a rehabilitation program where they can participate in group activities. So they can have their social time they also allow inmates on the yard to have yard time.
They handle food they recycle they also participate in veterans group and volunteer community service. They have academic opportunities that the inmates can take advantage of such has them getting their GED and or their high school diploma. They also offer vocational studies. Which include machine shop welding and other trades they can take back to society to better them self and find a job …show more content…
Juan Ledesma 23 escaped July 28, 2012 no one knows how he escaped but he was latter caught. Thomas Kelley, 51 an inmate that worked as a fire fighter he escaped on a fire truck that he was working with he was later found in Lemon Grove San Diego. Barrett Justice Fadden, 32 he escaped while headed to UCSD hospital he managed to slip out of his restraints pushed the officers and ran down a canyon forty five minutes later he was caught. Joshua Drinnon, 36 escaped when he was being transported from Tennessee back to Donovan prison he escaped during a rest stop near Princeton Illinois. He was captured at a local resource center for the
