The first one, is pollution in Narragansett Bay, which is probably the biggest freshwater supply available to Rhode Islanders. Lately, big companies and industries have been trying to find loopholes in the Clean Water Act since it was passed 40 years ago.The Clean Water Act is a law that protects America’s oceans by governing water …show more content…
Since 2000, the years have grown increasingly hot and it has been noticeable. This continued until 2014, the warmest year ever recorded. Sea levels have been rising quicker, and storms are growing more powerful. Soon civilization itself could be entirely wiped out. Americans all around the globe have started going green to prevent this. They started to use solar energy. Solar power has tripled in the last two years, and it still growing. Rhode Island, is not much of a solar state, but that can change. If the whole world went and stayed solar, it could stop global warming altogether! Unfortunately, there are people who would want to stop this. For example, the Edison Electric Institute, an organization dedicated to various electric utility companies, has begun to dismantle solar laws around the midwest. They don’t care about how global warming will affect the environment if it means staying in business. Rhode Island may not be the state with the most solar panels everywhere and sunshine, but every state has a government. By showing how much we care about our country, we can convince the government to make these new solar goals. Together we can prevent global warming. President Obama is on the matter already. In 2009, Rhode Island’s unemployment rate was around 10%, making it the state with the second highest unemployment rate. It is second only to Michigan, which makes sense after the auto industry collapse. No one could understand exactly why RI was having these economic meltdowns. It was confirmed though, that the state’s smallness must have something to do with its problems. Well, the state does not have any major industries or specialties. Healthcare was the largest, since over 14% of Rhode Island’s population was over 65. Even with healthcare as the largest, there were only small chain businesses, and it just wasn’t enough jobs for everyone. Especially since there were much better hospitals and such that you could too if you needed medical attention. Such as Mayo Clinic, one of the leading clinics in the U.S. People would rarely come from a long distance away to RI just for health purposes. Thankfully, now, in 2016, Rhode Island’s unemployment rate has dropped down by 5%.Yet, they are still doing poorly with education. Education is very important; it is one of the key factors to getting a job. Money is being donated by the government, so that more local work and jobs can be created. It will surely help Rhode Islanders get back on their feet, 5% of RI’s population though, is still nearly 50,000 people jobless. Can you imagine that? 5% unemployment is 5% too much. The new RI governor, Gina Raimondo, has
