Response To The Movie Trumbo

Dear Mr.Cranston, the movie trumbo is an exciting and thrilling film. Before seeing the film I knew little on the McCarthy era or the Hollywood 10. The film perfectly conveyed the ideals of each party down to the effects on their families and careers. Not only does the film express the oppression faced by the hollywood 10 but, it also relates to many instances such as the crucible that we will be researching soon. Each character embodies different traits that are accompanied with the trials. The plot, characters, and historical setting reveal the real terrors of this time period. The plot of the movie kept me interested and wanting more after every scene. Each scene brought different elements, some even blending together multiple feelings. The way the film is able to keep a watcher interested, yet still be so historically accurate and educate you on the McCarthy era amazed me. I felt as if I was trumbo being taken along this heartbreaking journey …show more content…
Many scenes were recreated from pictures from Trumbo’s family. Although the movie contained many sub plots they would never stray far from the historically accurate events. Almost everything that is shown in the movie would be tied back into the main plot of the mccarthy trials. This work does a great job of educating and entertaining its audience with amazing historical setting. Mr.Cranston I thank you for this film that allows students to truly understand the trials these people had gone through. Without the film we would have to drudge through articles and barely be able to connect with the events that happened in this era. I hope you continue to create beautiful pieces of work like Trumbo and appreciate the effort you put into this movie. Trumbo is an outstanding learning tool to the McCarthy trials. The plot, characters, and historical setting combine for a film that expresses the abuse of power and ability of people to stand up for the

The Crucible Essay The Crucible by Arthur Miller is an allegory for the red scare in the McCarthyism era because on The Crucible people get accused of witchcraft as the same as people whom were accused of communism. People in The Crucible did all they could to reject the false accusation of witchcraft what was dealt upon them, but everytime they denied the false fact, they would be tortured until they come clean, same went for communism when they denied of being a communist they would be imprisoned. What makes The Crucible an allegory to McCarthyism is the accusations that were made, the torture to the accused, and the consequences for if you were accused. First topic is Accusations. Back in Salem, people were accused of witchcraft, during the Red scare, people were accused of communism.…

Many characters in On the Waterfront, a movie directed by Elia Kazan, and The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, parallel each other; however, in both works the creator takes an opposite stance portraying them. The mob in On the Waterfront parallels those accused of witchcraft in The Crucible, Charley Malloy is a parallel to Elizabeth Proctor, and Johnny Friendly is a parallel to John Proctor. Each of these characters are in a similar position to their parallel, however they are perceived as good or bad based on the work in which they are found. Through the lens of On the Waterfront, communists and those who protect them are portrayed in a negative way. The mob symbolizes communists because they harbor dangerous people and try to prevent others from turning them in to the police.…

All you had to do was say someone's name and make up a story, and people would look at them differently. “John was asked to sign his name by his wife and Hale so that he could live. “ You will sign your name or it is no confession.…

Block uses a portrayal of the Committee of Un-American Activities to convey his dislike for McCarthy’s trials, as he shows the irresponsible actions of the government which can also be seen in the Miller’s depiction of the witch trials. In the cartoon “It’s Okay --- We’re Hunting Communists,” Block illustrates the Committee of Un-American Activities as a car driving recklessly through the streets and carelessly running over American citizens. Although the committee is meant to be helping the American citizens by identifying communists, it harms innocent people instead. Consequently, the same can be said about McCarthyism, as it started with the intent to rid criminality from America, but rapidly spiraled out of control and ended up as a detriment rather than a benefit to citizens.…

Communism was such a startling time for American society, creating various suicides and pure killings, including the suicide of Don Hollenbeck, which shook the newsroom. It was to a great degree, very brave of Edward R. Murrow to face Joseph McCarthy before the camera, expressing many facts that demonstrate his honesty and innocence, and McCarthy's ludicrousness. While the American society could have rejected him, not trusted him, or essentially disregard his comments. Be that as it may, Murrow was exceptionally worried with his notoriety with the society and he would not give anybody a chance to bring him down. Murrow won at last while having positively planted in his thoughts of "truth with diligence”.…

The Departed is a Martin Scorsese film released in 2006 (The Departed). While it may appear to be just another mob movie in a sea of mobster noir films, it’s a contemporary crime drama that hinges on thriller as well. The film is set in modern times on the south side of Boston, and the characters are keen to remind everyone of that fact, making the setting of the south side a prominent point throughout the film. It starts with an almost benevolent Frank Costello, expertly played by Jack Nicholson, examining the finer points of morality and the law. He’s a man whose foundation of morality is built upon the belief that the ends certainly justify the means, since no one else will get you what you want or where you want to end up in life.…

This movie is a classic crime/detective genre and is a black and white movie. The movie was made in 1941, and is about a young detective who gets involved with a gang in the city he lives in. It has twists and turns around every corner and has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. My opinion on it however is that it was a good movie and keeps you intrigued, it was kind of slow and at some points it was hard to understand what everybody was saying.…

I personally enjoyed the film, although they suggested the events that were to occur later, I kept watching with enthusiasm because I wanted to see how they would play out. The diction that the brothers used throughout the film created a negative attitude towards them, although Winthorpe and Billy Ray were the ones to be involved in a legal mess, other characters gained sympathy. Ophelia and Coleman were the ones I was rooting for, they had a job of taking care of others needs from the beginning of the film, and were taken advantage of without receiving appreciation. The wealthy characters such as Penelope and her friends, through the diction and the events were not very liked. The story plaid on a serious issue, which was people’s overwhelming need to consume no matter who or how many people they took advantage of.…

“When a man thinks for himself, he follows the impulse of his own mind, which is determined for him at the time, either by his environment or some particular recollection (Schopenhauer; 1851).” Arthur Schopenhauer establishes a claim upon the true essence of learning, through presenting a juxtaposition between learning through reading and learning through the extraction of thoughts from surroundings and experiences. He begins with the assertion that with learning through reading, one is introduced to a different perspective and broadens the horizons of knowledge towards a specific idea. This claim is valid and correct to a certain extent. An author, or a set of authors, presents a biased viewpoint on the subject they had chosen to elaborate…
