a) Please indicate what attracted you to this post?
What attracted me most about the position of a Resident Assistant was the opportunity to help other students with the difficulties of university life which I experienced myself. Although Edinburgh is not a large city, it was still difficult for me to adapt to this new lifestyle. Wouldn’t have it been for my Residents Assistants, it would have been far more challenging for me. Now that I am given the opportunity to do the same for new students is a chance I cannot resist. Furthermore, this position will allow me to develop my leadership, administrative and team-working skills, as well as to ensure that I stay at the heart of university life. I enjoy taking initiatives and always try to motivate myself and the people around me. Due to my well-developed organisational, time-planning, graphical-design and advertising abilities, events will be successful, well targeted and entertaining for all residents and my role model figure will encourage their academic and professional development. General problem solving and emergency responds have always been one of my strong sides and will also prove helpful once again for the role as a Resident Assistant. My adaptive character and event organisational skills will bring the residents on site to build an active community together, which freshers can benefit from by enjoying their first year at university.
b) What skills and experiences do you want to gain from this position?
I expect that this experience will further develop my communication and administrative skills, which I will value highly. It will give me the opportunity to be a part of a team which will introduce students from different backgrounds to their new common life – that is university life. That will allow me to experience diversity and broaden my understanding of different cultures. Moreover, I believe this post would be an outstanding addition to my CV and that my future employers would acknowledge it, as it will make me stand
