Adolescence is an important stage of development. Many viewers that have watched this movie do not realize that it shows so many developmental concepts. This movie is not only for laughs but for real life examples of these concepts are involved in an everyday life. Mean Girls is a movie that is great for showing the life of an adolescent through physical, personal, and social development.

This issue all starts out with the popular group called the plastics. The plastics are all about themselves and their looks. The group’s leader, Regina George, is the first example of the body image issue. She regularly talks about how she has to “lose three pounds”. In this movie, the tinier the person is the more power they have. Cady hangs out with the plastics at first to get back at them for what they did to her friend Janis Ian. Cady tries to mess with Regina's perfect body by giving her fattening bars. Regina thinks these will make her lose weight, but it's the complete opposite. Regina gains weight and cannot fit into her jeans or any of her clothes. The only thing that was fitting her was her sweat pants. Cady then becomes the queen bee of the plastics. The plastics display this throughout most of the movie. Cady then transforms into being completely egocentric. For example, she throws a party while her parents go on a trip. She throws this party on the same night that she is supposed to watch her best friend's art show. Instead, she makes up an excuse to not go so she can have this party. Another example of Cady expressing egocentrism is by not caring about how her parents would feel if they knew about the party she was throwing. At this point in the movie, she is considered one of the plastics to everyone. She is constantly asking if her clothes make her look fat. It is all about Cady now. Everyone follows Cady because of this attribute she now has. She has gained this leadership through her “plastic” ways. She only cares about herself now. Throughout the movie and throughout her journey of finding herself, she transforms into something she said she would never be. She has the whole school behind her mean and selfish
