The Mennonite perspective was founded by Menno Simon. Simon was a catholic priest who agreed with the Anabaptists that baptism should be left to the individual instead of baptism of infants. Ammenn and his followers left the Mennonite church to establish the Amish church over 300 years ago. Moreover, facing continuous religious persecution throughout Europe where they had mainly been settled along the Rhine river; the Amish fled to America.
The first twenty-one Amish families left for America in 1737 from Europe in search of a place to thrive. Once in America the Amish settled in William Penn’s religious freedom colony of Pennsylvania. William Penn, a Quaker, received the land from King Charles II of England as payment for a debt that was owed to Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn. Like the Amish, the Quakers of the time also faced persecution and Pennsylvania became the safe haven for many.

Women and girls wear dresses that are no shorter than half way between the knee and the ground. Their solid colored dresses are fastened with straight pins. All women wear prayer caps as they see their heads as sacred to God. A married Amish woman wears a black cape and apron to church. While the unwed Amish woman wears a white cape and apron. As for the Amish men and boys it is a little simpler, hook and eye fastened suits. The pants have no zippers but button up instead and are held up by suspenders. The suit coat has no buttons, collars or lapels. A black felt hat is worn during formal occasions and a straw hat is permitted for the summer months. An Amish man who has a beard is a married man.
Amish in the United States speak American English. However, Old Order Amish do speak Swiss-German. More traditional Amish speak Pennsylvania-German that is also known as Pennsylvania-Dutch.
CONCLUSIONS
The religious persecution that this group of people has faced does not seem to shake them from the faith that they hold dear to. The population is increasing despite the world drawing in closer to them every day. A peaceful people who aren’t completely opposed to sharing their ways and beliefs with others in their community as long as they can keep a distance. The Amish are not simple people who live without, they have a history of making their own way through difficult
