Reflective Essay: Where Will I Be Able To Read?

Superior Essays
In my essay, I will discuss the changes I have made over the past few years and also what it would be like to not be able to read, and the effect it would have on us. Starting from fourth grade leading on to eleventh grade now. When I first started off as a reader, I struggled very much, I was not a very fluent reader, I could not read out loud, and I stuttered very much. My parents and my teacher recommended a class, that would help with the problems I had with reading. Starting in the fourth grade, I would go to a class for an hour that would help with my speech and of course the problems I had with reading. I would go to this class every single day, I went to my class for a month until my teacher noticed some change, I could read out loud with no problem, I spoke the words fluently and I started reading way more than I ever have, simply because now I was improving and I could tell. My teacher also recommended to read every night when I got home for about thirty minutes. My mom of course made me even though I could not stand reading, it was not something I enjoyed very much, but My mom made it very clear to me that I needed to improve my reading and grow as a reader so I did, I stuck through it and read every day after school. Leading on to fifth grade I could say I have grown as a reader and My mom, my teachers and of course myself was very proud and they have noticed change.. I still continued to read in fifth grade and I continued to grow. Going into sixth grade all the way until ninth grade I read quite a bit. I have read many series like: The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd and The Compound. Honestly starting into tenth grade, I lost the joy of reading and it was something I did not want to do anymore, and it was amazing how much I went from loving to read to not being able to stand to read at all, it was not something I wanted to do ever, and every time I would have to read at school I dreaded it, and it had nothing to do with the struggles I have had in the past. I just started to have a lot of problems with finding the right book that I actually enjoyed, nothing appealed to me and it took me a long time to really get into a book and the only time I actually read was in school. No matter what, or how hard I tried, I could not get myself to pick up a book and read outside of school, and I barely read in school. Starting into eleventh grade now, the books we read in class are way more complicated. The Vocabulary has changed. Understanding the book’s is difficult, and everything that has to do with reading and writing changes, and it gets harder the farther you get into school. Even though I have made …show more content…
Even if it's short stories, or just articles on the internet, it is something good for the brain, and would help tremendously, and help you grow as a reader. I sit down and start to think about what it would be like if we did not have the ability to read. It also makes me think about how important reading is to us. If we did not have the ability to read things would be so much different. Our daily lives would be difficult. We are constantly reading, we do not go a day without reading. It's not just about books either we literally read everything, every day, we read when we use technology, when we're on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Reading is something we do and will always do, something we constantly do, Reading is a thing that comes naturally with us. When we first start going to school as a kid, we start to learn to read and from then on it's something we never stop doing. Could you imagine what it would be like if one day we lost the ability to read. I feel like we would not know what to do with yourself, sit there blank confused about everything. To go from doing something everyday and then losing the ability to read would be

When I read I felt so smart because I understood what the story was saying on the first try, I could read through a book that was assigned for the week in less than an hour. It fueled my ideas for drawing as well as storytelling. Every picture is worth a thousand words so I would draw something and write down what it was about as if I was illustrating for my own novel.…
