Game, Set, Match! In a blink of an eye, my partner and I won our very first game in soft tennis. For the last point, I was able to score an ace. An ace is a winning serve that the server’s opponents never touches the ball with their racket. Therefore, the server earns a point, while the opponent loses it. This last point was crucial because it led us to victory. The excitement that I felt on that day is palpable. Ending the match with such a great impact is really memorable and a thrilling experience for me. I have played soft tennis for one season during my sophomore year of high school. I learned how to play, ground rules, and take that knowledge to help me play in matches. I wanted to share all my experiences and feelings about my matches …show more content…
Equipment in this sport includes a ball, a racket, a net, and the court. The size, shape, length, height, and the materials to make the net and a court for soft tennis are the same as regular tennis. However, the balls and the rackets are slightly different compared to tennis. First of all, the ball is rubber-made, air-filled, and its color is white in principle (Vegda, pg. 5). The soft tennis balls are filled with 6.6 cm in size and about 30 to 31 grams in weight (ASTF, 2018). One can adjust the ball’s air pressure by using a small hand pump with a blunt pin. Each ball should bounce between 75 cm to 80 cm when dropped from a height of 1.5 m upon the court (Vegda, pg. 5). I remembered the first time I physically hold the soft tennis ball. It felt really soft, light, and hollow compared to a hard tennis ball. I was also able to squeeze the rubber ball really tight without bursting it. As for appearance, the soft tennis ball is perfectly round and slightly bigger than a tennis …show more content…
Hence, this informative essay has shown the main points about the sport of soft tennis. Starting off with the history, Japan developed soft tennis based on regular tennis. In 1878, George Leland introduced tennis to Japan, however, due to financial difficulties, Japan could not afford some of the tennis equipment. Therefore, they made some adjustment to better accommodate their tastes, such as producing rubber balls as a substitute for a tennis ball. Eventually, soft tennis gain popularity in the Asian countries. Secondly, soft tennis equipment is very similar to regular tennis but with slight differences. Soft tennis balls are rubber-made, which makes it lighter and softer. Soft tennis rackets are lighter in weight and more flexible to suit the balls. Lastly, there are a few basic rules players need to know beforehand. Some rules include the number of games in the single, double, and mixed-doubles match, and player’s code of conduct. Players also need to know how to earn points in serve and in play, and winning or losing a game and a match. Overall, this essay has addressed the three main points about the sport of soft tennis: the history of soft tennis, the types of soft tennis equipment, and the rules for competitions.
(Guttmann, 2001, pg. 229). Furthermore, “national tournaments are held annually for men and women on high-school, middle-school, and company teams” (Guttmann, 2001, pg. 229). In addition,
