The Importance Of Following The Rules Of Group Work

Decent Essays
I believe that I have been following the rules outlined in our group learning agreement at the start of our group above the standards that were set in the agreement. For instance, I let anyone in our that has an idea speak before I do and know not to interrupt them when they are speaking their mind about the idea or opinion about about a topic. Also, If there are people working on an in-class assignment, I always if I there is any way I could help in any way to complete the work faster for our group assignments. I also make sure to keep away any distractions from myself during class, such as my cellphone, to not detract from my work, for my group, to make sure my work is not lacking in any way. There’s always ways that I can improve myself to make the group better overall. However, I feel that I should include other people in the group work. For example, Tully, Arthur, and I were working on the web page a few weeks ago, and Lauryn were not contributing to the web page and giving their opinions or creative ideas for the income inequality web page. I should have asked if they wanted to provide any details or information for the construction of the website page. Additionally, I think that I should be more vocal and bring more of a leadership presence to the group. Overall as a group, I sense that we need a great deal of improvement to become a cooperative group. At this time of the semester, I feel we are not much of a group, but rather people who are coming together in a way that is not much of collaboration, but just trying to get the work completed on time or as fast as possible, without really giving group assignments thought or discussion. Arthur Abel- B- I gave Arthur a B- only due to how his absenteeism has affected the group in regards to the great web page he created, but due him being absent three times this semester already, it has affected our smaller group. It made it difficult that we could not reach him until a few days ago for getting access to his web page. Although, when Arthur has shown up to class, he is great to work with because of ideas and is able to work efficiently and has leadership qualities. Lauryn Lucca- D- …show more content…
Sometimes, Tully can get fustrated with technology, but he works hard on everything, so that is a small setback in the group.
Axel Sanchez- C Axel is a good group member, he always shows up on time to class, however he does not provide much of his thoughts or opinions to the group when we are completing a work for this course. He will complete his assignments, though they are not always the best work. Plus, he will contribute minutely to when we are working on an assignment for this class.
Daniel Cronk- A- I believe I work hard in this for my group and bring something different to the group with regards to always having a level head and not getting frustrated when a task for the class is complicated. Also, I think about the big picture when we are working on assignments and also bring up contrasting ideas to what we are working on so we can have a more complete assignment and not just a one-side for our public policy issue of income

For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.…

On the morning of September 11th 2001 the United States was struck with the biggest terrorist strike in the history of the nation. Ultimately this attack changed the way we look at and fight terrorism. The 9/11 attacks were carefully plotted out, using very sophisticated measures to complete the objective. Since this attack, many have pondered how they received the training it takes to pull off an attack of this magnitude. When you are able to kill over 3000 people through a series of sophisticated planned strikes, one begins to question the background of these men.…

As a collaborator, my strengths were that I made sure that everything got done on time and that it was done right. My weaknesses were that I didn’t really talk to my group as much as I should have and I kind of didn’t put responsibility on anyone but myself. Group work requires talking to others, otherwise you’ll just pull all of the weight and the other group members will get a free ride. Honestly, I feel comfortable controlling the whole process of group work and have people just follow what I say so I know that things are getting done right. This is probably not good, but I don’t feel like I can trust groups because a lot of the time people don’t do what they’re supposed to.…

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

Cleanthes' argument from design for God's existence is not convincing. He compares two different ideas and thus, wrongly generalizes. He also commits a fallacy, and doesn’t meet the criteria necessary for the type of argument he offers. Although, a few potential strong points are present in his beliefs, like the improbability of chance, and the incomprehensible evidence of God, they are still not strong enough for His justification. Cleanthes through an a posteriori, inductive argument claims that since the presence of small machines (i.e. houses) implies human design, the presence of an even bigger machine (i.e. the universe) implies a human-like intelligence behind it as well as "the adapting of means to ends in natural and human machines…

The North Dakota Association of Honor Society has four criteria that all members should possess and applicants must meet all four to be inducted: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Since I have been given the opportunity to fill out the application for the Honor Society and write this essay, I clearly have demonstrated skill in the Scholarship area. However, that still leaves three other areas. First is the area of Leadership. I have been entrusted by my peers to serve in various leadership positions both in the school and through other activities that I am involved with, which range from Class President to serving as a member of the school's Peer Leader Team.…

Our project teams theory we decided upon Social Disorganization Theory due to the the first part of the theory involves why some areas of a city or county have higher crime rates. We feel as a group that the high poverty levels in the downtown area play a part in the higher crime rates and in youth development within the community. The high poverty areas with youth in them tend to lead the youth to make a decision of living in poverty or turning to the streets to make money. The second factor or this theory is when all organizations including law enforcement, churches, schools, and afterschool programs work together as one they will help combat the problem of crimes in certain areas of the city and county. This theory along with our project teams idea and the program already in place at the YMCA is going to help youth engage in positive behaviors away from the streets and hopefully ignite a positive outlook on education.…

Whether you are a part of a social group or on a group project for school or work everyone has the want and need to be included, when group members don’t feel like they have fully been accepted in to the group they can become withdrawn and anti-social which would lead them to not be a contributing part of the team. Having a diverse group of people on a team can help a team more effectively and efficiently reach their common goal. If everyone on the team had the exact same life experiences, was the same age and the same culture they more than likely would have the same general way to approach the group’s common goal. Having diversity on the team can help generate more ideas because everyone’s life experiences and cultural differences have helped form the way they think and the way that they solve problems. Roles, needs and diversity affect a group’s teamwork immensely because if members aren’t performing their specific goal and only focusing on a self-centered role the groups work will either multiply for the other members of the group or the group’s common goal might not be met.…

During three months, I learned a lot about small group communication, especially the group climate and interaction are going well in our group. Our group works well on building and keeping positive attitude to our assignments and supportive climate. Each group member devotes to create an atmosphere that our group is the best group. For instance, our group member Erik and Jo always said some words of praise and encouragement, such as “we are really a good group”.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Apparently, the interactive nature of a knowledgebased society and a knowledge-based economy mandates the ability to collaborate. “Those who have successfully created cultures of innovation and creativity suggest that one key is to… embrace participation, collaboration, networking…” Collaboration and teamwork is such a key element to many aspects of life - it appears everywhere, and this skill comes in handy later in life in many situations, maybe even tomorrow. It took me a slight bit of willingness to give collaboration and teamwork a shot and understand what is behind it, it’s not just wanted or unwanted socialization, like I thought before, it might be the key to building a business empire, for all I can know. In the modern age, when a lot of the things are already invented, it’s hard to come up with something new on your own. It’s the innovation that rarely takes place in just one head.…
