The stories I often heard explaining the reasons the family chose cyber-education are often heartbreaking. More often than not, these children have been met by an educator with a fixed-mind set. The students feel like they do not have control of their own education and often feel they cannot learn. In order to motivate learning, it is imperative that I promote a growth mind-set within my classroom. Carol Dweck has done extensive research improving the education of learners encouraging a growth mind-set. Dweck (2010) explains that when students have a growth mind-set “they believe in their intelligence can be developed” (p.26). It is essential that my students know I believe in their ability to learn and that we are in this process of learning together. By establishing this trust, I can help them grow in learning and essential achieve. Many of my students are facing huge achievement gaps. They need to know and understand that through perseverance and hard-work, we can hurdle those gaps
