At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.

It has instilled in a passion for advocating for all students, especially the underrepresented. It also inspired me to venture my leadership in different organizations, including the African Student Association and Residence Life. I have also actively participated in the Trio Student Support services. These roles have given me a platform to advocate for the needs of students to be met. Furthermore, seeing my mentees succeed has inspired me to continue serving as a mentor as I find great joy seeing my fellow students succeed. Most important, Smooth Transition has taught me the importance of selflessness, humility, and hard work. I represent these values in my work. I am also accountable for planning events three times a month, enforcing rules, watching over the building, and updating residents on important information. I use my Resident Assistant platform to advocate for non-traditional student concerns and educate students about the resources provided at Xavier. As a non-traditional student, through my programs, I strive to educate my residents about the resources provided to non-traditional students such as Trio Student Support, Office of Success, and resources from Financial Aid. I do this by hosting educational events and presentations. Many students have found the educational programs beneficial as they often times they are unaware that Xavier provides such
