Red House Fire Research Paper

A long time ago, there was a fire that killed about 146 immigrant woman. What had happened was that these women had been working, and every time they had to empty out their purses to make sure they weren’t stealing. The day the fire broke out, they were checking the purses. The fire started on the 8th floor and spread upwards. The whole story was written some months later in one of the most popular journals called the “McClure’s Magazine.” The buildings were made out of wood, it was obvious that they were not made to be factories. Any incident could’ve happened, one of the machines could’ve caught on fire and that could’ve been it for those women as well. The sad thing is that no one really cared until way after the incident. In the “New York Times”, it said that Mayor Gaynor refused to release the seven unidentified bodies. He said that the city would be in control of their burials. He did that because he was scared that people would riot and cause more crimes. They decided to do a funeral march. Many people participated, and a lot watched. She watched the fire, and the public display of grief. On page 101, she asked a question that changed a lot of people’s views. She asked “Now what is going to be done about it?” That question made people want to put the Triangle owners in jail. I think they were to be blamed for it. I doubt a co-worker would want to catch everyone (possibly including themselves) on fire. Maybe the Triangle owners were racist, considering that this was a time of segregation. They had a locked door. The locked door itself wouldn’t be a crime. But because that locked door resulted in so many deaths, the owner could be charged with manslaughter. That means he could’ve had more than 20 years in prison. The case got
