The fur industry has been part of American society even before there was a United States of America. The fur trade likely started when Hudson’s Bay Company was incorporated in 1670 (Dyhouse) and has continued to this day. While fur fashion trends have changed over the years, ranging from felted beaver hats in the mid-19th century, to hats trimmed with whole birds and stuffed kitten heads in the early 20th century, to today’s mink coats, one thing has remained the same; that every piece of fur clothing has come from an animal that was killed for it (Dyhouse). Because of concerns about causing animals to become extinct, furbearing animals have been raised on farms since just after the Civil War (Dyhouse, “Fur Farming in North America”).…

George Saunders’ “Puppy” and Toni Morrison’s “Recitatif” tell of two different stories with different characters in presumably different time periods. Both authors have drastically different backgrounds that bring them to these tales. However, their works of literature are more comparable than one would initially think. From the perspective of the reader, the intent of Puppy was to stress that there is often more to something than meets the eye and that because of this, we tend to want for things that we do not really understand. The families that appear in this story are perceived differently on the surface than they actually are underneath everything.…

The Americans were able to secure a victory in the Revolutionary War due to the following reasons but not limited to: the geographic advantage to the American colonists; French and Spanish alliances; and strong colonists war tactics. Fighting the war on American soil provided a geographical advantage to colonists because the British were unfamiliar to the terrain. Other geographical advantages the American colonists capitalized on include the climate differences in parts of the country and difficulties the British experienced transporting troops and supplies. The French and Spanish alliances provided the colonists with additional troops as we were outnumbered by the British. Benjamin Franklin played an integral role in establishing these…
