The legal drinking age is 21 in the United states of America. The majority of teens have at least had one alcoholic beverage in their life. Definitely not all of them but most of them have. There is a lot of debates on the legal drinking age. Some people say it should continue to be 21 and some say it should be 18. Since everything else is legal at the age of 18 shouldn’t the drinking age be 18 also? In my opinion the legal drinking age should be 18 and here are all of my reasons why. In these countries the underage drinking numbers go down and have fewer alcohol related problems. Also, When drinking is made legal for anyone under the age of 21 and over 18, some drinking takes place in public. It can then be supervised by police and security guards. Jones 3
Also, often colleges and universities want the drinking age to be 18. This is because while the legal drinking age is 21 there are more problems with the colleges students getting in trouble for drinking under the age limit. Also, they think that legal drinking may cut down alcohol related deaths. Plus, people that aren’t old enough to drink tend to drink more then they should because of the uncertainty of the next time they will be able to drink again.
One of the reasons there are so many alcohol related deaths among teens is because when they aren’t legal they drink a lot more because they don’t know if they will drink again any time soon. So the government might as well just lower the drinking age to 18 because there wont be as much pressure on them from drinking under the legal drinking …show more content…
A 21 year old and an 18 year old are both legal adults. So they should be able to both get alcohol when ever they want. It just doesn’t make sense why the drinking age is 21. For example, if someone’s dad told his son or daughter that they can move out when they are 18, when they move out they have to take care of themselves. If someone is able to take of their selves at the age of 18 then they should be able to drink alcohol. Also, you are legally able to get married at 18. That’s a little dumb how you cant drink at your own wedding.
An individual that is 18 is an adult. And drinking is a sign of adulthood. An adult doesn’t want the adult title taken away from him/her by not being able to drink. An 18 year old is allowed to do anything any other adult can do besides drink alcohol, that sounds a little fishy to
