When I originally started school I wanted to be a teacher. I loved kids so it seamed like a logical choice as a career. Working as a CNA has helped me fall in love with nursing and helped me know what I would be getting into by going to nursing school.
(D) Study Strategies for Success
I am dyslexic so since elementary school I have been developing study techniques to help me do my best. I like to take notes on my computer in a program that lets me record lectures so I can go back and add to my notes after class. I also make flashcards to study with and read them aloud to myself. Reading is one of my favorite things to do to relax so I often read over my notes and books before bed.
(E) Support System to Balance Obligations
I have been a full time student up until this spring semester. Since I was about sixteen I have been working at least thirty hours a week while also in school. I live with my boyfriend who on the days I’m busy takes over the housework and cooking on the days where I am less busy I take care of it. He has been very supportive of me going to school and working. He is a nurse himself and when he was in school he also worked full time so he understands and is very supportive of my work and school life. I do not have any kids nor do I plan to for a while so my personal commitments are very minimal. The best way I have found to manage my time between work and school is to schedule my classes at the beginning of the week and work twelve-hour night shifts Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Working this schedule allows me to break my week into my school half and work
