Jack had been jealous of Ralph ever since he was on the island because Ralph was the chief. He wanted to be the chief, but the majority of the group picked Ralph since he was older. Jack believed that it should be his turn to be chief because he doesn’t that Ralph is a good chief. Jack thought that the chief needed to be brave so they could take down the beast. According to Jack, Ralph shouldn’t be chief because he wasn’t part of the hunters therefore, he didn’t find food for the group. Jack was very embarrassed when he saw that no one in the group was on his side about changing leaders.
