2. Personification is to give an object human characteristics, emotions and physical traits. For example “Blue skies, smiling at me” has personification becuase the sky cannot smile unlike a human being.
3. In the play “The Raisin in the Sun” the flower pot gets personified twice throughout the play. Once in the beginning of act one, scene two and the second in act two, scene two. In the play the flower in the pot respresents “Mama”. Beneatha personified the flower to be “ragged and old” but then Mama replied saying how the flower represents her. Mama would often care for her flower because just like Mama they both are fragile.
4. Toward the very beginning of the play, especially in the introduction the author would describe the scenery of the house where the family lived. The house in which they lived inn was old, dusty and dull. The family had to share a bathroom with the other families living in the same complex as them. In the beginning of act one, scene one Travis asks his mother for some money buy the issue was that their family couldn’t afford giving money to him so no matter how many time Travis begged for money his mother would refuse. But Walter then came in and gave Travis the 50 cents that he wanted. Unfortunately, Walter counldn’t afford the transportation fee to get to work. 5. I believe that Mama symbolizes hope and opportunity in this play. In act two scene one Mama and Ruth were discussing the pros and cons of moving into a white community. But instead of deciding to give up the home and move somewhere else Mama said “Well, there will be some now” meaning that from now one colorded and white people would live togethor in that neighborhood. Not only was she determined but she was also very responsible. Mama has the responsibility of keeping her family togethor in good and bad times. The flower pot was the only colorful object in the whole house. The flower represents Mama’s hopes in the family, when the flower looks bright se cheerful then so was Mama.
