1) The two specific ways Gabriel Thompson and Robert B. Moore had a connection with this week’s reading were the different types of racial inequalities, as individuals were considered different in the American culture. Gabriel Thompson begins with “How the Right Made Racism Sound Fair and Changed Immigration Politics”, giving an insight towards the topic of language and how it may separate individuals from one another mainly from their race. Thompson describes the point with “Calling someone “illegal” or an “alien” has whole host of negative connotations, framing that person as a criminal outsider, even a potential enemy of the state(Thompson, pg.491)”, as illegal immigration are considered a disapproval compared to the White American culture. Robert B. Moore article with “Racism in the English Language” gave a similar vision from Thompson, as it explores the way language influences Western and how slurs were brought upon with racial stereotyping …show more content…
Moore reading brought to my attention was the inequalities of African Americans, and how whites have been used to promote racism. Moore describes how the English language can attack individuals by how they quote a certain slur, along with a racial stereotyping in the American culture. The words which may seem harmless towards White Americans; however it portrays African American to believe that they considered different and worthless in the American society. Moore’s article describes “the symbolism of white as positive and black as negative is pervasive in our culture” (Moore, pg. 2), along with “Good guys wear white hats and ride white horses, "bad guys" wear black hats and ride black horses. Angels are white, and devils are black” (Moore, pg.2). The showcased facts which show how language can influence African Americans in a negative way from white Americans, and how it could promote harm from simply one racial
