Although discipline is ensuring that guilty individuals meet punishments for racist acts, it is much more difficult to cut down on racism because of the lack of surveillance that is possible to catch all actors in and around football stadiums. In comparison, raising awareness reaches all subject that correspond to the football community whether they are appreciative of the message or not. The use of mass media and promotion by soccer teams to apprehend racism is more useful than disciplinary action because it uses the favorable power of popularity. Popularity is a major tool to use in order to fight racism in European football, if your favorite players or team are influential in endorsing the movement it makes it more difficult to maintain the same racist morals, contradicting the support for your favorable party. Further, the impact of organized movements to raise awareness and education on the subject of racism in football stands as a more effective process in the prevention of racism.
In conclusion, the measures taken to prevent racism in European football is important as the reputation of the game is at stake. The problem racism plays within football is one that could be applied to a larger scale in terms of sports and other institutions world wide.
