In modern society, (from a western perspective) we see Africa as a place with broken governments, disease and death, poverty and despair and non-educated and illiterate people. The west see Africa as a place of crime a place of danger and Corruption. People are often basing their knowledge of Africa upon racial stereotypes. The media is a dominant force in swaying our perspective and opinion on Africa.
Why do we think of Africa as one country, one culture, one climate and no diversity? This shows the lack of knowledge we have on Africa, as a nation. We would not say Europe is one country or Asia, yet why is Africa portrayed in this way? Take the example of Ebola …show more content…
In the eyes of many, Africa is either a desolate, hot, barren, dry, desert like place. Or a place of humid jungle full of trees with vines which camouflaged snakes hang and a wide variety of exotic animals. These physical aspects are true in Africa but those are only two of the many different physical biomes in Africa. Africa has a great number of biomes: Semi desert in the North, a thin strip of dry savanna running through Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso all the way to Uganda. 3 quarters of moist rainforest and tropical rainforest covers Central Africa. Temperate grassland covers most of Southern Africa. Montains and wet grassland are situated around the Lakes Victoria, Tanganyika, and Malawi which hold a quarter of the world's supply of fresh drinking water.
