Race Issues
Racism is part of human nature; we all judge the environment and people living in it through a personal lens. Therefore, our opinions on people are shaped by our views and values, which naturally leads to preferences to some over others(Dict,_). Racism by definition means “discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior”.Racism comes in different types of forms such as Individual,Institutional, Cultural and Scientific and it has been known to influence wars, slavery, the formation of nations, legal codes and even known to break up families (Adl,2016).Many cultures have begun to fight racism by banning racist beliefs …show more content…
While 4 percent of white students reported that they attempted suicide at least once, within the past year, 16 percent of black students reported suicide attempts’’(App,2017).In 2006 the APA believes that it’s important to “be mindful of the existence and impact of racism and racial discrimination in the lives of patients and their families, in clinical encounters, and in the development of mental health services”(App,2017).These stats are connected to racism because it shows the effects racism have on different cultures, black people are more likely have attempted suicide due to the racial dispute with the police.As a result of my research, racism has …show more content…
