The wolf is represented by the s’klallam tribe because in the tale, mink didn’t want to share with wolf and even though wolf sneaked his catch away; he still left mink with something. This was interesting to me because in real life, even when the settlers didn’t want to share the land with tribes, most of the tribes tried to help and assist them.This story can be interpreted however one thinks it should be interpreted. If one were to read this tale, it would behove of them to research the tribe like myself to get a good idea of the origin and then connect that with your interpretation.
In conclusion, I feel that this tale relates to the settlers and the S’klallam tribe because just like the story the Wolf took the fish from the Mink; just like settlers did to native americans all over the United states. I also think to understand and interpret this tale, you have to first interpret it in your own way and then go on to make bigger connections. This is crucial because with a story that sends you in so many directions, you need to have an idea about which direction seems best for you. This story has taught me not to be selfish and remain humble throughout life because you never know when your luck can change.
