Throughout the book, The Invisible Man, the main character which is still nameless, travels from his homeland the south of the U.S to the North side. In his journey, he lives with the struggle of not knowing who he is, nor does he know the purpose of his life. From the beginning towards the end, the struggle remains the same for the nameless main character. He meets many great people who he believes might help solve the question of his existence, but even with that help, he reaches no conclusion. During the beginning of the book, when the invisible man was still introducing himself, he stated this “I was a coward… But what did I do to be so blue? Bear with me.” From that moment onward, the theme of the book was to find reasoning behind why he was invisible. By stating “Bear with me,” their is an introduction to what is going to happen next. That was the characters message to the reader, to let them understand that throughout the story there will be a set of clues that will help the reader determine the reason why the main character considered himself invisible. Therefore, with this information, it can be stated that the starting theme of the story is “one cannot know who they are if they do not evaluate what they were.” Once this theme begins to reach its peak, the theme begins to change. The main character, through the amount of rejection from society, finally concludes who he is. Which allows for the theme to begin developing, developing in a manner that begins to conclude the end of the main character's journey.
