The leadership style of Quint Studer reminds me of a bulb, not because the Studer Group and Foundation carries his name has a bulb in the logo, on the contrary, it encourages to “be the bulb.” As described by Cokeley in (2012) an electric current flowed through a filament of carbonized thread and brought the world into light on New Year’s Eve 1879. It was Edison’s vision, and willingness to share that created dynamic change. Both Edison and Studer are exemplar they set raised bar, and have offered (Psalm119:105) light unto the path of many. His straightforward style is no less than genius is as it involves a flywheel, pillars, and organizational change.
Studer is a skillful role model for those who wish to become excellent within their field regardless of which field it may be. In the book by Great by Choice (Collins, 2011, p. 19), describes 10X behaviors. Studer exemplifies the behaviors described such as fanatic discipline, empirical creativity, productive paranoia, and Level 5 ambition. Many who work with small organizations can identify of this phrase. This speaks to his style of leadership and the formula he is so famous for teaching. He is a leader with a genuine style that sets him apart because he is willing to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing. Studer found himself willing to assist a crying woman who asked for help when he answered the phone in the absence of the nurse. Following detox, the lady credited Studer for saving her life, thanked him then embraced him. While Studer maintained that he did not believe that he saved her life, he did admit that he enjoyed the embrace and the feeling that comes from making a difference.
This is an example of how his style set him apart early in his career. Thus, allowing him the agency to decide whether to pursue excellence or settle for less. Studer has remained pertinent to leadership in the in contemporary age in in the Florida panhandle and nationally. His name is synonymous with excellence in teaching leadership and motivating others to excellence. The organization that bears his name received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in
