Politically during this time period, the Qing Dynasty was in power over China. The Qing Dynasty consisted of Manchu rulers. These rulers were taught Confucian beliefs and then they applied these ideas to governing China. The Qing followed behind the Ming dynasty and ruled through a highly centralized system of scholar-bureaucrats. Socially, many changes happened during the Qing Dynasty. Firstly, wealthy families could own slaves (servitude), then the artists and peasants were second to the bottom of the social ranking. Next were the nobles and laborers, and finally at the top was the emperor and his advisors. Laborers during this time period were responsible for farming. As the rest of Western Europe was industrializing, China was still producing agricultural products. Economically, the Qing Dynasty’s wealth mainly came from cultivating their land. Because of the increase in food the population increased. After the Industrial Revolution, China refused to leave their beliefs and industrialize which really affected them in the future.
Although China had two dynasties between the time period 1400 to 1900, some things have remained the same. One example of a continuity (socially) in China is the language.
