I chose to do my project on the Pyro board which is an adaptation of the Rubens tube. The Pyro board uses fire to demonstrate sound waves. I chose this as my project because I find music and fire fascinating. Having them interact to demonstrate the physics side of sound helped me understand all the different aspects that can effect sound waves and alter the way we interpret them.
Before I started to build my Pyro board I did research on how they worked why they worked and why the flames reacted the why they did. Then I read about what other people had tried when building their Pyro boards to see what worked and what did not work for them. I did this to save time and money by making the same mistakes other people had already made. I learned from their mistakes. I also got ideas about different ways I could build my Pyro board and what materials I would need.
When I began to build my Pyro board I thought I could save time by using an old medicine cabinet as it was the right dimensions I was planning to use for my Pyro board and would only need a top added to it. After I removed the mirror and shelfs I sanded off all the paint. At this time I noticed there were a lot of holes I would need to patch to make the box airtight. I got a high temperature epoxy to

Then I took a piece of paper that was the same size as the top I was making for the Pyro board and measured out the exact spacing for each hole I would need to drill in the top, creating a templet. I then cut the top out of a sheet of 22 gauge steel leaving 1 inch on each side so I could fold it down over the sides of the box. At this point I taped my templet to the top and began to drill my holes. Making the templet took a while and I had to restart a few times but in the long run it saved me a lot of time and made sure each hole was placed precisely where it should
