Davenport. Fisher suffers from repression. Freud says repression is an unconscious mechanism employed by the ego to keep disturbing or threatening thoughts from becoming conscious. While Fisher was in the state of denial this gave his ego the opportunity to block disturbing and threatening thoughts from becoming conscious. When he begins to talk more about his life experiences those disturbing thoughts begins to haunt him. In one particular scene Fisher talks about his best friend Jesse, and when he thinks about Jesse, cowbells ring off in his head. When Antwone was a kid Jesse was his only friend. Once Antwone reached his years as an adolescence, he began to rebel against Mrs. Tate’s strict rules and psychical punishment. Mrs. Tate kicked Fisher out of her home and he was left to sleep on the streets. After, years of not seeing one another, Fisher shows up at Jesse door step. He tells his friend that for years he had been homeless and slept in the local park. Jesse offers Fisher a place to stay, where he was allowed to shower, eat regularly, and have decent clothes. Fisher accept the offer. Later Jesse ask Fisher for favor. They walked into a local convenient store, where Jesse then holds up the store’s clergy at gunpoint. Fisher had no idea that Jesse had planned to rob the store and in the heat of the moment Jesse turns his head for a split second. The store clergy pulls out his gun behind the counter and shoots Jesse directly head. Fisher runs out the stores door as the loud cowbell hanging from the top of door sounds off. Another painful thought Fisher ego had tried to block from being conscious, but because Dr. Davenport asked about his friend that resurfaced a painful thought he tried to
