The ways in which the government decided to solve those issues helped to form the United States that it is today. The constitution is one of the best examples of how the American Dream caused political action to take place. The constitution was created to legally protect people's freedoms and their rights. The Declaration of Independence does the same thing in that it mentions “ That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Declaration NP). Both acknowledged the dreams of the people and since they were both an integral part in the formation of America then one could say that the American Dream helped to create America. When slavery was a hot topic in America the missouri compromise was there. The Missouri compromise divided the country in half over slavery, it kept free states to the north and slave states to the south in an attempt to keep both sides happy. In today’s time political parties fight for what one believes in with a united voice and they have done so for many years. Political parties started with the Federalists who wanted a strong government those who did not agree with them joined with Jefferson in the Democratic-Republicans, both sides trying to have their voices heard and their ways protected. With the Monroe Doctrine the United States wanted to keep Britain and all other countries from invading and taking back colonies so Americans could preserve their way of life. When the plan was first formed the United States as a country could not back up that statement with military power, but still wanted their freedom and to keep things the way they were. The Homestead act of 1850 was the government's way of encouraging people to spread out and move west by giving them cheap land. Going west was some people's dream then with the west having adventure, earlier stories of gold and riches, and cheap land. Many responded to the homesteading act and moved out west to follow their
