• Multiple books can be stored in one reader and are generally cheaper, so it’s both space & money saving.
• Functionalities like dictionary, text-to speech and searches provide additional value to the user.

E-Book Pricing:
Amazon can still opt to sell e-books at a lower price as they have a greater financial stability, diversification in the market and larger market share this helps Amazon to lock in customers to its Kindle environment.
However, B&N cannot do the same due to lack of financial stability & market penetration. Instead it can look into device tie ups with tablets/iPad, college bookstores incentivizing sales from brick & mortar stores as well as working with publishers to nominalize the price point of e-books, as B&N’s instore sales still provide major revenues.

Future of E-Books & Devices:
Considering the sheer variety of devices available in the market it is difficult to think that there can be on device or format with over 50% market share in the entire e-book market within next 5 years. For solely e-book readers Amazon’s Kindle already commands way more than 50% of the market. However, when it comes to the entire e-book market envisioning one clear winner amongst android tablets, iPads and e-readers is difficult due to high competition amongst platforms, rise of device independent formats for e-books, volatility & nascence of the entire market place. Also a threat of new entrants is high, and there are alternatives available such as audible & rental
