Pros And Cons Of Pro Capital Punishment

Pro Capital Punishment The first recorded execution was in 1608 (Fridell). This form of punishment has been around for many years and should continue to be used based on its effectiveness. It has its perks and it’s downfalls, but needs to be put in place to keep order in our society. If it wasn’t for the death penalty I believe our most violent individuals would stop at nothing to commit these outrageous crimes. Individuals are afraid of dying, but not everyone is afraid of prison. The usage of the death penalty decreases the crime rate, provides safety to society, and provides closure to the families involved. The first key element to look at is deterrence. The death penalty defers individuals from committing acts of violence that are punishable by death. One may say that if they are violent individuals they are not going to worry about being put to death. I beg to differ; there were only six executions that were charged in 1966-1980 and the murder rate doubled from 5.6 to 10.2 per 100,000 people. In 1998 execution rates reached an all time high of ninety-eight in the United States. The following year there was a significant drop in this statistic showing a 5.7 murder rate. (Pearce) This form of punishment instills fear in those who are thinking of committing a crime that may put them on death row. This information provides a basis for why the death penalty should still be used because there is a clear indicator that the murder rates have decreased and the outside world has become safer. The next element that has a significant factor with capital punishment is Safety. …show more content…
Safety is one of the bases for society to function and thrive in an orderly manner. It provides individuals with a sense of peace and justice. Capital punishment doesn’t only make it safer for the guards but the inmates too. You always hear stories of inmates being stabbed and shanked. If a criminal has the urge to always kill, like these mass murders do then how are they going to control it in prison? You will not be able to control it, you can isolate them for so long but that just gives them time to think of a way to commit these serious crimes while in prison. If the death penalty was in place guards and inmates would not always have to fear for their lives. The usage of the death penalty helps ensure this safety to prisoners. Crime interferes with this sense of wellbeing and is why these violent individuals must be punished appropriately. The third and final element that comes into factor is closure for the families. If a criminal that doesn’t have any remorse for what they just did would you want him to still murdered your child have a chance to impact your life more. The story of Charles Manson with a reporter named Mary Neiswender that he was talking and writing letters to shows it all. Manson wanted to show just how much pull he had even from behind bars. He sent a follower of his to Neiswender’s house when her son answered the door, the follower did not hurt the child but asked for a book of matches and left. Neiswender lived in a gated community making it tough for visitors to get in. This does not sound terrible, but just this man could have

The death penalty is a good way to give families closure, cut down taxes, and the punishment fits the crime. Now in 2015, the death penalty is by lethal injection, no longer the electric chair, gas chamber, hanging, and firing squad.…

At the same time the methods used are different, people today believe it is desensitized to get closure by killing another human being for committing a capital offense. Our means to deter criminal activity ore to keep criminals from recidivating, in my opinion, do not work very well. The individuals on death row have to wait years to receive their punishment for their wrongdoing. The less serious offenders do their time as set in place by the system, with the possibility of parole, and after they do their time, they’re released back on the streets without having a reason not to commit another crime. Face the facts, if the offender can stay on the officer’s good side, stay off of the radar of the rough inmates, and is okay with being alone, the positives for the offender is a free bed, free food, and free showers.…

If the death penalty was used more often, maybe it would reduce unlawful acts. The main reason I support capital punishment is so that justice can be served. People who commit murder and rape should be held accountable for their actions. The families that criminals have hurt deserve nothing less than justice. The death penalty could also serve as a deterrent and reduce crime rate.…

The death penalty is not a reasonable form of crime control. There is no clear evidence that shows that capital punishment acts as a deterrence. The studies of it’s effects are flawed due to the impact of other factors that need to be considered. Studies have even suggested a connection between the death penalty and higher crime rates. It’s is proven that states with the death penalty actually have higher murder rates than those without it.…

While this may be a more daunting topic to undertake, I believe the death penalty is one that should be dealt methodically in ordered to reach my desired point. It is excepted that death penalty laws were first set in place in eighteenth century B.C., there were many discrepancies along the way. However, in the present day twenty first century or the first century of the third millennium, the death penalty is becoming less and less know in the United States. It is customarily thought that the death penalty counterbalances Human Rights, established on 10-Decemcer-1948, claiming it cruel and unusual punishment, however, a multitude of the crimes committed by the solitary individuals were cruel and unusual. I see this in a different light, I believe that the death penalty should still be endowed upon those who commit implausible, horrendous acts…

Some crimes are so gruesome that they can result in the death of the people who committed that crime. The methods that are used to execute inmates that are given the death penalty are lethal injection, which is one of the most common methods, electrocution, gas chambers, hanging, and firing squad. Most of these methods are just as inhumane as the crimes that are committed to receive this punishment. The death penalty should be banned for many reasons, some of those reasons are that financially it cost more to execute someone than to give them life in prison, someone could be wrongly accused and given the death penalty for crimes…
