Which is the process by where a phone can be turned into a mobile hotspot. And in 2012 the phone company AT&T blocked apples facetime app from running on its network unless they paid an additional fee as it increased bandwidth. This is a problem that not enough people know about. This however has made its way to the court as companies such as Yahoo, Google and Netflix are on the side of net neutrality where as the internet service companies such as Time Warner Cable and Verizon are Beltran2 against net neutrality manly because they say that it would lead to increased strain on the bandwidth usage. A company like Netflix can argue a company like Verizon can’t throttle internet streaming speeds on their website. In the summer of 2014 Netflix began paying Verizon and Comcast more money to higher bandwidth in order to improve video quality and speed for their respective website. Comcast happily accepted the money, but Verizon thought it was not enough and started to limit the bandwidth on their customers trying to use the video streaming website and blamed the problem on Netflix. One customer of the internet provider decided to research the problem himself and found out he was getting a performance of 375kps, but when he switched to VPN (virtual private network) which allowed the user to bypass the restrictions that Verizon had put on him and saw a performance boost to 3000kps, which is the maximum allowed by Netflix. But this is also a violation by Netflix because even though it is not a law service providers are not allowed to speed up anyone website as they receive money for it. Net neutrality also covers the basis that you should have what you pay for. For example when Google brought its own Internet provider Google Fiber to Austin, Texas which a offers gigabit download speeds other providers such as Time Warner Cable and Grande up the speed of their internet to match the competition in order not to lose customers. However they only did that in the area where Google fiber was being offered. Where as here in the valley we pay the same amount of money for Internet as someone would in Austin but because they live in a bigger area where Time Warner Cable has to compete with other companies there Internet is more than ten times faster than ours even though both customers pay the same amount of money. Which I believe is unfair because if they are to upgrade one area Beltran3 for no extra cost then they should do the same for us. Another way of looking at it would be like this. Comcast and other service providers should have no say in what passes through the pipes. The Internet providers should not be allowed to charge different companies more or less for their data or to slow it down, or block, access to web sites and services they don’t like. A good counter argument that I came across is that websites that provide illegal services such as pirated movies, and music should be throttled in order to detour the activity. There have been many movements from many different groups to make net neutrality a law in
