The only thing worst than being a new arriving immigrant in the first half of the 1800s in the United-States was being a slave or servant. No matter which part of the country you found yourself in whether it be the North, South or West, as an immigrant you would be subjected to job discrimination, residential segregation, limitations on civil and legal rights... However, if a choice had to be made, I would have probably chosen the North because the thought of living in a state that hadn't abolished slavery like in the Southern states wouldn't be conceivable to me. Moreover, I wouldn't have lived in the West since the states that were being created there would have been too recently become parts of the Union and I would have most likely considered them…

With that being said, I think we have a lot of people at “home” that need to be helped.…

Illegal Immigrants: Targeted Demographics to Enhance Profits by the Business Owners and Smugglers George W. Bush in his 2005 State of Union Address stated, “America’s immigration system is outdated, unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with the laws that punish hard – working people who want to provide for their families and deny business willing workers, and invite chaos at border”(Bush). Generally people believe that slavery was abolished in the United States by the thirteenth amendment in 1865. Well, perhaps that slavery was eradicated, but in this country there still exists what one might call ‘Modern Slavery’. Many immigrants whether entering legally or illegally have the ‘American…

There have been many concerns over immigration recently and this creates uncertainty for the fate of The Dream Act. The Dream Act is a legislative proposal that will give undocumented people who came here illegally when they were very young the chance to legally obtaining Citizenship. Becoming an American “The interaction of disparate cultures, the vehemence of the ideals that led the immigrants here, the opportunity offered by a new life, all gave America a flavor and a character that make it as unmistakable and as remarkable to people today as it was to Alexis de Tocqueville in the early part of the nineteenth century.” (John F. Kennedy, a Nation of Immigrants) I believe that America is an interesting place with all different kinds of ethnic/racial groups. The problem is how the experience of becoming an American is so different for ethnic/racial groups. I find very troublesome to see how people were treated for just because they were different.…
