Animals have been introduced to habitats unintentionally for years. Hogs and wild pigs were introduced to woodlands and wetlands a long time ago. Although they were introduced a long time ago, they still cause problems to the natural habitat. People need to learn how to deal with hogs and pigs to reduce damage that they can cause. Hogs are nuisances to the habitats that they have invaded. Limiting the hog population is important in protecting the wetlands and woodlands. Hogs are an enormous problem in woodlands and wetlands. They invade and destroy property, animal shelter, and also they don’t have any predators. In a report written by Michael D. Birds that live in shrubs and on the ground have their nests destroyed because hogs are brute and care not of where they are going. Hogs are the type of animal that destroys and seems to cause tons of problems. They also causes problems with other wildlife and have been reported to consume offspring of several animals. Some of these animals include fawn of deer, which is often hunted for its’ meat. With their diets consisting of anything and everything, the hogs have their way with what they eat. With several animals and plants being the hog’s food, the hogs face no real threat when it comes to predators. Hogs are omnivores that eat anything that crosses their paths. Not only do they eat living animals, but they’ve also been known to eat decaying animals. In a report by Fox news, Jim Lacour states “They are in the marshes and beaches of Louisiana all the way up into the hills and piney woods and swamps, “They’re in every habitat in the state." Later own he also states that they have to perform aerial gunning of the hogs "because they tear up the marsh and that leads to coastal erosion." A man named Gentry discussed an idea on how to reduce the hog population. He believes that he can use sodium nitrite to block the pig’s ability to breathe. If he is successful in finding the right mixture then it will be eleven times cheaper than hunting hogs and eighty times cheaper than trapping them. The three main issues that Gentry is dealing with is the effective lethal dose of sodium nitrite, an effective delivery medium and an effective and selective delivery system. Finding the right mixture, delivery and medium is very important in reducing a thriving population that is causing a lot of problems. A problem that seems to be occurring is hogs being transported to new areas. People enjoy hunting hogs and so they are being distributed to new lands. It is bad enough that their population is increasing but as more and more people bring hogs to new areas their numbers will only grow.
